Vintage Typewriter Keys... Halloween Sign

I've been working on some Halloween Signs! I made a Halloween Sign patterned after the Pottery Barn Style of Vintage Typewriter Keys.

I love how simple it is!  It goes anywhere and looks so cute with whatever you place next to.  It was fun to make and I thought I would share it with you!!

I think it looks pretty cute with our  little Witchy Owl...

I bought an 8 in. wide pine board at Lowe's.  I cut it in length to 28 in. long.  I painted it  a cream/white.  After the paint was dry I placed 6 circle stencils measuring 4 in. diameter that I cut on my Silhouette Cameo.  I painted the circles black... (if you do not have a silhouette you can trace around the outside of larger cup and paint the inside of the circle freehand)

Once they were dry I placed the letter stencils cut in a courier font in the middle of black circles... If you do not have a silhouette, you can print off the letters on your printer and cut them out and trace and paint them in by hand...

I painted them with cream/ white paint...

Once the letters were dry, I made the vintage typewriter circles.  I took a cup that was slightly smaller than the diameter of the black circle.  I dipped it in various places on the rim.  I did not put paint on  the entire rim of the cup.

I placed the paint around the black circle to give it character...

I sanded the outer edges of the board and ran  a little bit of stain over the area to give it some character.

Project complete! I think this sign is one of my favorites!

If you would like to see  Halloween signs I just finished using an old pallet, you can see them here or by clicking on the photo below...

With Much Love & Gratitude,

  3. What kind of stain did you use for your edges? And, did you go over the letters with some of your white paint? It looks as if you did a light brushing of paint?
