Fold-n-Go Totes... Pottery Barn Style

I have always loved Pottery Barn Kids Art Activity Cubbies.  I wanted to build some for us, BUT I wanted to design ours a bit Differently!

Here is my design, Can you figure out what I Changed??

Here is Pottery Barn Kid's version...

**I have often thought about this design and thought, I love the idea of the small cubbies, but it so long and what if I wanted to store it?  Well this is where I came up with my concept...

What if I built this same design in two pieces, put on some hinges, cut some handles and placed a latch on the side to keep it closed??

Keep Watching...

Hinges...

Latch...

Ready to Go or for Use half the size we started with!

OH WAIT!  I didn't stop there!  I also made one with a Barn wood Finish and made it also a little bit different!!

I made the overall tote smaller than the first tote featured above.  I also made some of the slots a little bit wider and spaced apart for larger items!  Since we are starting into Spring/Summer and Outside Entertaining... I thought it would be fun to make this tote to for use for BBQ's and other items!

Slot #4 is Wider for Plates or Larger items.  Slot #5 is smaller and perfect for straws or scissors...

Oh yes... there are hinges for folding...

Latch for closing...

It can also be used folded up too!  We roasted hot dogs out in the fire pit over the weekend  it worked perfect to have out by the fire with all of our plates and silverware ready to go!

Look how fun the two different totes look being used together! One open and one closed!

I had a lot of fun coming up with some different uses for these totes!!

You could finish these in any type of finish you want!  They would be great for Baby items.  Use the larger slot for diapers and wipes...  It could be hung up on the wall or against the back of a changing table...

Fold it...

Or take it somewhere else...

How about some craft items???

Stretched out on the craft table or against the wall and then just...

fold it up

to go when you are done...

I also thought of SMORES!

We tried it this weekend with Smores out at the Firepit and it worked like a Charm!  I love to have organized Smores!  I usually am the one running the Crackers and Chocolate.  It is a stressful moment when the marshmallow is hot and ready to go and about to fall off the skewer.  It really helped to have the crackers and chocolate ready to go!

I had the tote all stretched out with everything in its own place on our black bench here below!

The wider slot was perfect for Marshmallows!

When we were done, clean up was a snap!

Who doesn't love Colorful Paper Straws??

How fun would these be sitting out at a Party??

Can you tell I've had a little bit of fun with these? Ha-ha!
