Land of the Free...

I wanted to share with you a 4th of July board I just put together...

Just a Simple Board with several strips glued to it with a Silhouette of the USA painted on it...

I love how it turned out and how it looks on our Mantel!!!

I used some scrap wood to complete this project:

The Back  Board  Piece is a: 1 x 12 Pine board  cut 14 1/2 in. Long
2 Rulers
5 Strips of 1/4 in thick plywood strips cut at:
                                         12 in. long x   1 1/8 in. wide
(Some of my strips are a little longer than 12 in. long some are
                                         around 12 1/4 in. long)
Wood Glue or Liquid Nails
Stain
White paint
Mint/Blue paint
Red paint
Stencils cut on Silhouette Cameo
Contact Paper

I Started by laying out the unfinished wood:

I stained by strips of wood and rulers with the color stain I wanted:

Painted my back board White:

Decided how I wanted my strips of wood to be arranged and glued them on with Liquid Nails.  You could also use wood glue and if you notice, they are not laid out all that evenly at the ends:

I Downloaded a  digital download of the USA from the Silhouette store:
Cut my Stencils on contact paper on the Silhouette Cameo:
The USA is cut:   10 in. long x 5 3/4 in. high
The Land of is : 3 3/4 in long x 3/4 in. high & in Font: Courier
The Free is: 5 1/8 in. Long x 1 1/4 in. high & in the Font: English
Added a Star for accent.

I laid out the USA stencil:

Painted in the Stencil with some Mint/Light blue colored paint:

Finished USA:

Once the paint was dry, I Placed the Land of the Free Stencil on and filled it in with Red Paint:

This was a pretty quick project to put together and it has been so fun to have out...

Burlap Envelope Pillow

I wanted to  make an Envelope pillowcase out of Burlap.  I had some extra fabric so I thought it would be fun to make a Fourth of July themed one!

Here is a view of the back.  It really didn't take me all that long...

These Measurements are for a 16 x 16 pillow insert:

Front Pieces (Mine are cut in 2 sections and then stitched together:) Your total area for the front piece should be 17 in. wide by 17 in. long.

Top Piece 17 in. wide and 6 in. long (The blue fabric in the photo below)
Bottom Piece: 17 in. wide and 11 in. long (The Burlap fabric in the photo below:)

Place right sides together at the middle seam horizontally and stitch across:

Finished Front Piece:  Measures: 17 in. wide and 17 in. long

Back Piece:
Cut: 17 in. wide and 22 in. long

Next cut your back piece in half Horizontally at the middle so now each back piece measures: 11 in. long but still stays 17 in. wide

Now you will do a double roll hem horizontally on both pieces right where you just cut.  When finished, the two pieces will look like this:

Here is a closeup of the double roll:

Next you will layer and over lap these two back pieces right sides together on top of the front piece you stitched together:

Layer one Back piece with hem running horizontal right sides together across the middle on top of the front piece:

Layer Second Back piece with hem running horizontal. Over lap the other back piece: It really doesn't matter which piece is on top or bottom for the back.

When the two back pieces overlap and the pillow is finished, they form an opening for the pillow insert to go in and will look like this:

Now pin around the edges of the entire square:

Sew a 1/4 in to 1/2 in seam allowance around the outside of the pinned edge:

Turn the fabric case out to the finished side and your case is complete!  Next I cut a No. 4 on my Silhouette out of contact paper.  I also placed a piece of cardboard or board inside the case behind the number four that I am painting so the paint did not leak through to the other pieces of fabric:

Paint in the stencil:

Peel off contact paper and your case is complete!

4th of July Decor...Flag Photos

One thing I LOVE to do is take my kids Photos with the Flag!    I LOVE to incorporate it into our 4th of July Decor!

This is one of my favorite Flag shots of my older 3 kids that I took years ago.  I took them one day a few weeks before the 4th of July so I could print and frame them and put them around the house.

I found an older street with some great tall trees and a sidewalk.  I just had them walk along and had Madi hold the Flag.  I also love how McKay is running his hand along the picket fence too...

I have shared some of these pictures with you before, but they are also so fun to put around the house for 4th of july decor...

Ivy with the Flag hanging as the backdrop...

I have these two pictures  on our Fireplace mantel...

Another one of my Favs is this one with Aves and the Flag on an old Road...

I have it enlarged and on our Old Window/Shutters...

Just some ideas I wanted to share.  I LOVE to have these pictures out at this time of year.  The Flag Pictures just add that much more to the house in the Summer...

Have a great Day!
