Fabric Rose --- Tutorial!

 I wanted to share with you how I made the fabric roses for the ruffled tote bags!

**Note:  These fabric roses can be used for various purposes.  I used these to accent the ruffled tote bags.

Cut your strips of fabric... Depending on how big you want your rose to be depends on how wide you cut your strips of fabric.  

For the smaller roses: I cut the strip about 3-3.5 in wide x 44 inches long. 

 For a larger rose: I cut the strip about 4-4.5 inches wide by 44 inches. 

Once you have your fabric cut, you need to fold it in half the whole length of the fabric and hold the end of it in your hand.  Do not stitch anything at this point.

Begin rolling your fabric somewhat snug but not too tight.

After you have rolled it a few times, take a needle with a long length of thread and sew through the raw edges of the fabric, this will be the bottom of the rose.  The folded edges will be the finished viewed edges of the rose.

Continue to roll the fabric.  As the rose gets more full, you can adjust and ruffle the fabric to resemble petals of a rose. Continue to anchor periodically with the needle and thread to secure your rose.

Secure your rose with needle and thread to finish...

 Once your rose is finished, attach it to your bag.  I just used a needle and thread to attach these.

Here is how a larger rose looks... The Larger roses do look more full because of the larger width of the fabric.
